Posted by admin | Posted in Weird Diamond News | Posted on 27-01-2010

The Golden Globes is a night of glamour and glitz, and this year was no different. But for Jane Krakowski – this year’s Golden Globes was special indeed. Krakowski had a little extra special to share. Especially noticed was her glowing smile and her lovely diamond engagement ring.

OneWed.com stated Krakowski wore her diamond engagement ring for the evening – a large square-cut stone on a platinum band. For the Golden Globe awards she wore a purple gown, drawing fans and photographers to her like bees to honey.

Husband-to-be Robert Godley was going to propose as they traveled to London but their flight was canceled. Godley proposed during the holiday season. Godley is the co-founder of Psycho Bunny, an upscale menswear clothing business. Krakowski said he found another way to propose. As we can see, she said Yes!

Fans especially know Krakowski for her role as Jenna Maroney on the TV network themed 30 Rock. She also played the funny law secretary Elaine Vassal on the very popular Ally McBeal. Krakowski won Screen Actors Guild Awards for both roles. She has performed on both television and the stage.

The newly-engaged woman may not have such a glamorous occasion as the Golden Globes to launch her engagement ring on the world. But there are many ways you can show off your lovely new diamond – and be sure to get many compliments. You don’t have to be a big Hollywood star to deserve the spotlight for awhile. Everyone deserves a little special attention – especially the newly engaged. But quite often you need to let people in your life know that you are newly engaged. Don’t want to tell them outright? Don’t worry – here comes the easy part! Try some of our favorite ways to show off your new glitter and sparkle:

Throw an engagement party and let everyone congratulate you on the engagement. This is the perfect time for family and friends to gawk and compliment your stunning diamond ring.

Whether daytime or nighttime – always keep your hands and nails in tip-top shape. The newly engaged woman needs to keep up with her manicure appointments. This little tip alone will have far more people noticing your lovely new diamond engagement ring than many other tips we could think to share with you.

Reach out and shake hands, pat people on the shoulder, point with your hand – do things that draw attention to your right hand. It will be a very easy next step to notice that glittery, sparkly lovely diamond engagement ring you are wearing. We bet you’ve noticed many engagement rings with this trick and didn’t even realize this trick was being done to you!

Remember to share with those who compliment your ring what type of ring it is and how your husband proposed. Many are curious as to what type of diamond ring you are wearing – there are so many styles available today. Some of the hottest trends available now include the colored diamonds. Your proposal story is always special and unique – family and friends will want to be sure to hear that in your own words! Congratulations!

Diamonds – From Dirty to Dazzling!

Posted by admin | Posted in Diamond Advice, Jewelry Advice | Posted on 26-07-2009

Diamond jewelry worn everyday; wedding ring sets and engagement rings in particular- are especially prone to appearing dull and lackluster. Constant wearing and unavoidable day-to-day activities exposes them to chemicals and other products designed for various uses.

If ever you find that your diamond jewelry has lost any of its sparkle, it should not be too difficult for you to trace back to find the culprits. A word to the wise: Chlorine bleach is not a diamond’s best friend! Avoid wearing your fine jewelry when using it. Hairsprays, dishwashing detergents, lotions, food and other “stuff” can quickly make even the most brilliant diamond appear to be a lifeless piece of costume jewelry. The solution?

Easy.

First of all, please keep in mind that diamonds are not indestructible and should be handled with care. The easiest (and least expensive) way to clean a diamond, is to swish it around in a bath of warm, soapy detergent. It is suggested that this not be done over a bathroom or kitchen sink, but in a separate container, to lessen the odds of your precious jewelry literally going down the drain. Make sure that the detergent is a mild one. A soft bristled brush can be used to gently remove any stubborn dirt or grime. After rinsing in warm water, a soft lint-free cloth can be used for drying. If you prefer a more professional home cleaning solution, it is good to know that there are excellent cleaning products available that are especially designed for the cleaning of fine jewelry.

As a caution: Be especially mindful if other gemstones are set next to your diamond(s); as they may not be able to withstand the same cleaning method as do diamonds. With proper care, your diamond jewelry should bring enjoyment for years!

Diamonds….Right Ring, Wrong Prongs

Posted by admin | Posted in Diamond Advice, Jewelry Advice | Posted on 01-07-2009

Let me tell you a story. This author’s story:

On our fifth wedding anniversary, my husband bought me a beautiful anniversary band; one center marquise diamond, flanked by two smaller marquise diamonds on either side. Fast forward three years later…

Getting ready to go to work on the first day after maternity leave…Dressed in a black skirt, and feeding my newborn a bottle; for some reason, I decide to look down at my ring finger. To my absolute horror, I discovered that the middle diamond was missing…Originally secured by two, apparently fragile prongs, a big gaping hole lay where there had once been a marquise stone. Panicked, I didn’t move. Suddenly, looking down, out of the corner of my eye, as I held my small son in the crook of my arm, I caught a small sparkle of light refracted from the loose diamond that sat squarely in the middle of my lap. Had I not looked down; or had I not worn a black skirt that particular morning, all would have been lost. I quickly snatched up the diamond and took the ring off. My husband took it to the jeweler later to have it re-secured.

A few years later, I lost the diamond again. Unfortunately, this time, it was not recovered. Is there a lesson in this? You bet. Prong settings do make a difference! Please keep the following in mind:

  • A thin prong with a “hook” configuration can be easily pulled away. This configuration is not advised.
  • Prongs should hold the diamond securely and have virtually no “wiggle room”
  • Four prongs are more secure than two. Six prongs are more secure than four
  • Have your ring examined by a professional jeweler at least yearly

It is hoped that my personal tale of heartache will not be yours, and also to serve as a reminder that it is possible to have the right diamond ring….but with the wrong prong. Check with your trusted jeweler to discover which prong is best for you.

Diamond Earrings…Hoops, Drops, or Studs?

Posted by admin | Posted in Diamond Earrings | Posted on 12-04-2009

“I like the way your sparkling earrings lay against your skin…” – The Eagles

Ever wondered just what kind of earrings they could have been? Hoops, drops, or studs? The writer never said. But, whatever the style, they made so much of an impression on the songwriter, that he chose to have them (along with the girl, of course) immortalized in verse! And like the love-struck guy in the well-known song, the sparkle of diamond earrings always seem to have a hypnotic effect on anyone who happens to gaze upon them, as they lay upon the skin.

Regardless of what one chooses to wear, earrings tend to add that one special finishing touch to just about any attire. When selecting the perfect set of diamond earrings, one would do well to think about the appropriateness of style; as well as of any occasions where they may be worn. While oversized chandelier or drop earrings are certainly lovely complements to formal attire; depending on style and size, they may be a bit overwhelming for everyday wear. This is where the personality of the wearer has to be considered , and where a happy medium can be reached with a choice falling somewhere between simple and elaborate. This is especially true when it comes to hoop and drop earrings. Hoop earrings can be almost as huge, or as small in circumference as the wearer’s heart (or budget) desires.

The same can also be said when it comes to drop earrings. They range in style… from close to the earlobe; to dangling past the shoulders. Diamond stud earrings can be especially versatile; as they are available in a variety of carat weights, and are appropriate for just about any occasion. Hoops, drops, chandeliers, or studs? Just what is your style?

Nothing Like the Real Thing! Diamond Education

Posted by admin | Posted in Diamond Advice | Posted on 20-12-2008

Probably a fake diamond.

Probably a fake diamond.

Pretty, isn’t it? But is it real? It sparkles, it flashes, it behaves like the real thing…but is it? In view of some of the most recent scientific and technological advances, sometimes it can be extremely difficult to distinguish a real diamond gemstone from a synthetic, lab-created stone. However, with a bit of detective work, it can be done. When an investment is made for such a costly purchase as an engagement ring or wedding ring, peace of mind can, and should be of utmost importance.

One way to determine whether or not a diamond is genuine, is to weigh it. Synthetic diamonds weigh about 1.5 more than the “real thing.” This can easily be determined by having it verified on a gram or carat scale. Another simple thing would be to examine the stone externally f

or any obvious scratches or blemishes. Diamonds are among the hardest substances found in nature, and can usually only be scratched by another diamond. Also, by taking a look at the depth of the brilliance, one can be given clue as to whether or not it is the “real thing.” With a genuine diamond, light is more refractive, and will cause the diamond to sparkle from all sides, whereas most synthetic stones will have a sparkly surface and no depth…all “razzle dazzle” with no substance. Heat is also rapidly dispersed with a genuine diamond, and so a heat probe can also flush out any fakes in almost no time at all.

However, if you want to be absolutely, 100% sure, a trusted jeweler, or professional gemologist (Gemological Institute of America, GIA) can provide a certificate of authenticity.
