Ahh, diamonds. The mere thought of them thrills us to the bone. There’s nothing more exciting that lovely, sparkly and shimmery diamonds. And we’re not the only folks who feel this way. There are plenty of others who have thought about diamonds too.

We’re not the only ones to think about diamonds. Plenty of famous and not-so-famous people think about diamonds all the time. That’s why we’re sharing with you their thoughts about diamonds…so you realize you too are a diamond diva at heart. Why we knew it all along! Every woman has an inner diamond diva when she loves diamonds so.

We’d like to share with you some of our favorite diamond quotes. Some of them you’ll probably recognize immediately and others will become new favorites. But one thing is for certain – you’ll know you have lots of company in being a lover of diamonds!

“Big girls need big diamonds.” – Elizabeth Taylor

“Diamonds are nothing more than chunks of coal that stuck to their jobs.” – Malcolm Forbes

“Diamonds never leave you…men do!” – Shirley Bassey

“I don’t exercise. If God had wanted me to bend over, he would have put diamonds on the floor.” – Joan Rivers

“I never hated a man enough to give him diamonds back.” — Zsa Zsa Gabor

“No pressure, no diamonds.” – Thomas Carlyle

“But this is Miami, you can’t come to Miami and not show any skin. You gotta show something. If you’re all covered up in this heat, you’re gonna make me pass out just to look at you. It’s sweaty in Miami – but the diamonds will keep me cool.” – Lil’ Kim

“Diamonds – that’ll shut her up…for a minute!” – Ron White

“Diamonds are forever, my youth is not.” – Jill St. John

And our favorite…a great classic diamond quote:

“A kiss on the hand may be quite continental, but diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” – Leo Robin

So do you have any new favorite diamond quotes now? Recognize any favorites? We’re sure you do! Add a new diamond quote to your desk, jewelry box or the refrigerator to remind you of your beloved and sparkly friends. Our diamonds are always there, just like our friends and family. If you are in need of a good laugh or a smile, one of these great diamond quotes will be waiting there for you, peeking out of your jewelry box or right on the refrigerator as you go to get something. Reminding you about your love of diamonds. What could be more wonderful? We can’t think of many things that are….

Some of these are quite funny and remind us just how special and treasured our diamonds are in our lives. Some of these quotes are great to laugh at – as they make it sound like diamonds always come first in our lives – and to any diamond lover sometimes we do feel that way! But truly our diamonds have always been the give of love and long-lasting romantic love. So our diamonds are very close to our hearts, with great meaning and sentimentality. We live our lives and our diamonds glitter right along with us in every moment.

There are many ways to be a good neighbor. And one Pittsburgh jeweler is showing their thanks to the community with a special treasure hunt. The prize? A 1.5 carat diamond ring! Now we knew that we had your attention! The Shadyside’s Henne Jewelers’ treasure hunt will be held on May 22nd.

The glittery, shiny prize is a Mark Patterson diamond ring of 1.5 carats with a value of $15,000. To join the jewelry store’s treasure hunt, simply register at their website, www.HenneDiamondDash.com. We’re sure they’ll see a great response from the community!

What a thoughtful (and glittery!) way to thank the community. They’ve even gone hi-tech with their treasure hunt, allowing contestants to send in treasure hunt questions via their cell phones through texting.

Here are some tips to be a successful treasure hunter. To win a treasure hunt takes a bit of luck as well as skill, but our tips can certainly put you ahead of the pack. Good luck on your way to finding glittery, lovely baubles!

Follow the rules. If the diamond treasure hunt says to show up at 9am then come just a little before this time so you are there right on time. Make sure to allow a little extra time for a big crowd, parking your card and registering if you haven’t taken care of that yet. All of the rules exist for a purpose. Not following them can keep you far, far away from the all things glittery and shiny!

Wear something cute and comfortable. A treasure hunt is both a mental and physical activity. You need to figure out the clues logically and creatively and also walk (or drive) to different places. Make sure your outfit is comfortable and cute and that you’ve got the right shoes on for walking. Now why should your outfit be cute too? Probably because you’ll be photographed as the diamond treasure hunt winner!

Bring a bottle of water and an easy to eat snack with you. There’s nothing like being involved in something exciting like a diamond treasure hunt and realizing that your stomach is rumbling. Have a hearty breakfast like yogurt and fruit or oatmeal and then pack a bottle of water and an easy to eat and very portable snack so you’ve always got something quick to eat that will give you energy. Good choices are protein bars or fruit or dried fruit and nuts.

Remember to charge your cell phone, bring a tiny notebook and pen and other practical items with you. Read the rules carefully to see if there are any items you should bring with you. For some treasure hunts, you will actually find the item itself. We have a hunch this jewelry store will hide something to represent the diamond ring and then you trade it for the ring itself. But bringing a clean sandwich baggie along with you to put clues in, a tiny notebook and pen, a mini calculator and a charged cell phone could all be great ideas. The more prepared you are, the better a time you will have.

Remember a diamond treasure hunt is all about the fun of the prize. There will be lots of people to enter and only one winner. It’s okay to get your hopes up, just don’t get them up so high you’re disappointed to not win. Then again, it will be quite helpful to know which finger you would put the ring on and what your ring size is…

When one usually thinks of diamonds, (especially the perfect diamond) what usually comes to mind are those that are clear and white; diamonds believed to be so exceptionally perfect, that blinding rainbows burst out with every beam of light touching them.

Those types of diamonds, will more than likely boast a rating high on the official clarity scale chart. However, just suppose…what if…just what if… one happens to stumble upon the diamond of their dreams ; and it just happens to be a deep brown; with a radiating warmth and richness that can compare with no other? Many have found this to be just the case.

Back in the early 2000’s , a company by the name of Le Vian, no doubt noticing that many had an affinity for this type of diamond, capitalized on this fact. Prior to this, diamonds that were of this deep, warm, chocolate color were known as “low color (or brown) diamonds”. Since that time, many celebrities have developed a fondness for diamonds of this type; oftentimes being seen on the red carpet, and at many other high profile events wearing Le Vian diamonds.

Through somewhat aggressive campaigning, Le Vian has successfully marketed these diamonds; presenting them to an audience that has a natural tendency to thrive on the unusual and the daring. And with this; brown diamonds became “in”. Lest we forget: De Beers, via similar aggressive campaigning, had been highly successful in identifying what, at the time, appeared to be a niche market just a few short decades ago. Chocolate diamonds…could they possibly be for you? Well, to us it seems that it’s all just a matter of taste

Do you like wearing diamonds but don’t want anyone to see them?

As unbelievable as it may seem, there are really people who exist on this planet who feel this way. There actually exists jewelry designers who have crafted their ring and necklace designs with secret compartments containing the precious stones. We know…by now, you are scratching your head and saying, “huh?” Why in the world would a person want to wear diamonds and not let them be seen?

Apparently, this is the “answer”: It seems that there are a few of those among us; secret diamond wearers if you will; who like the feeling of wearing such expensive baubles, but do not necessarily want to invite casual onlookers. And so, as a repellent, they cleverly choose to wear their diamonds on the inside of their jewelry. One such design has an inscription on the outside that reads: ‘Diamonds inside’. The diamonds can only be seen by peering at them through little pricks in the metal or via a tiny little glass window located on the inside. However, the wearer is always kept aware of their presence with the soft swishing sound that they make as they move around encased in their enclosed ’prison’. Pretty nifty, huh?

Lest you think that this is an isolated anomaly; research will show that there are actually a number of designers who do this on a regular basis. There also appears to be a somewhat less frivolous reason for doing so in a few cases. It seems that sometimes a designer will incorporate a few precious stones under the band of a particular style of ring as a trademark. In this way, it discourages counterfeiters who attempt to make copies, but are unable to foot the expense of the surplus jewels.

One thing you can know for sure: This diamond lover prefers to wear hers on the outside.

LifeGem, a Chicago based human hair remains recycler, has somehow obtained the honor of converting some of “The Gloved One’s” remains into diamonds! Yep, that’s right. You may recall that during Michael Jackson’s filming of a Pepsi commercial in 1984, his hair caught fire. Well, someone had the foresight to gather the singer’s singed locks and put them into safekeeping for ‘whatever‘. In a strange twist of fate, ‘whatever’ has appeared in the form of a visionary who foresaw a touching (and let’s not forget profitable) opportunity.

The visionary’s name? John Reznikoff. This is the same man who was able to obtain some of Beethoven’s hair. Beethoven’s ‘hair diamonds’ were sold for $200,000 on eBay. (One has no choice but to wonder how he makes these connections). LifeGem’s top representative, and CEO, Mr. Greg Herro, has confirmed that the now deceased Jackson’s burnt hair has the potential for producing approximately ten diamonds, each less than a carat in weight.

In a secret patented process, using intense heat, the hair will be reduced to carbon and then transformed into diamonds. This process is estimated to take somewhere between six and nine months. Seems the distribution of at least a few of the finished product has already been decided. The names of Jackson’s children, as well as parents have come up as being among the potential ‘lucky’ recipients.

Hmm…great minds think alike. Become the next visionary: Next time you go for a haircut, it might not be such a bad idea to ask the stylist to place your hair clippings in a ‘to go’ bag. One never knows…they may turn out to be diamonds in the rough.

Diamond jewelry worn everyday; wedding ring sets and engagement rings in particular- are especially prone to appearing dull and lackluster. Constant wearing and unavoidable day-to-day activities exposes them to chemicals and other products designed for various uses.

If ever you find that your diamond jewelry has lost any of its sparkle, it should not be too difficult for you to trace back to find the culprits. A word to the wise: Chlorine bleach is not a diamond’s best friend! Avoid wearing your fine jewelry when using it. Hairsprays, dishwashing detergents, lotions, food and other “stuff” can quickly make even the most brilliant diamond appear to be a lifeless piece of costume jewelry. The solution?

Easy.

First of all, please keep in mind that diamonds are not indestructible and should be handled with care. The easiest (and least expensive) way to clean a diamond, is to swish it around in a bath of warm, soapy detergent. It is suggested that this not be done over a bathroom or kitchen sink, but in a separate container, to lessen the odds of your precious jewelry literally going down the drain. Make sure that the detergent is a mild one. A soft bristled brush can be used to gently remove any stubborn dirt or grime. After rinsing in warm water, a soft lint-free cloth can be used for drying. If you prefer a more professional home cleaning solution, it is good to know that there are excellent cleaning products available that are especially designed for the cleaning of fine jewelry.

As a caution: Be especially mindful if other gemstones are set next to your diamond(s); as they may not be able to withstand the same cleaning method as do diamonds. With proper care, your diamond jewelry should bring enjoyment for years!

The Rose cut is among the oldest in diamond cuts; and is predominately found in rare antique jewelry. It was so named because of the pattern it displays when viewed from above….that of a blossoming rose.

This vintage diamond cut has its origin in the early 1500’s. It was actually quite popular; and could often be seen set in elaborately filigreed pendants, brooches, rings and bracelets. Diamonds cut in the rose pattern, were painstakingly done by hand; which naturally produced irregularities, but at the same time, it gave each individual stone its own unique character.

The rose cut became less popular as newer and more modern ways of diamond cutting were introduced. Machines, and state-of-the-art technology have since provided professional gem cutters with the ability to process diamonds with precision, while at the same time showcasing each individual stone’s best features and aiming for the maximum “wow“ factor; which the rose cut is not particularly famous for. The appeal appears to be more in the skill taken to turn a diamond into a wearable work of art, than in the actual shine. However, what it lacks in fire and brilliance; is more than made up in its quiet charm and scarcity. Many of these diamonds are quite rich in history and have interesting backgrounds.

Locating diamonds in the obsolete rose cut pattern is rare; as this cut is seldom made with diamonds found during these modern times. And so, as the ongoing quest for uniqueness continues, there has been a resurging public interest in this particular diamond cut; thus again proving: Everything old is new again.

It appears that the bar is continually being raised when it comes to finding rare diamonds…especially colored diamonds. In this particular case, the diamond we speak of is a gorgeous 7.03 carat, practically perfect blue diamond. To attain this almost absolute perfection, it was cut from an original 27 carat stone. Blue diamonds (second in scarcity only to red diamonds) are some of the rarest precious stones that can be found. What makes this particular diamond especially awesome, is that it is said to be internally ‘flawless’; an uncommon quality when it comes to diamonds…period.

The blue diamond (currently in a ring setting, and as of yet unnamed), will be the main attraction at an upcoming fine jewelry auction, and is scheduled to be auctioned off in Geneva, Switzerland by Sotheby’s sometime in May. It is estimated that it will command a price somewhere within the 5 to 8 million dollar (US) range.

The diamond, hailing from South Africa, and found in the Cullinan mine; was extracted by Petra Diamonds. This particular mine has had the reputation of regularly yielding high quality diamonds for quite some time now.

During these uncertain financial times, the price of diamonds of the highest quality remain somewhat steady; as they are timeless and remain mostly unaffected. Although fairly rare, diamond jewelry of color can be found at reputable jewelers located in less than exotic places. Of course, one would not expect to find a world class, museum quality, diamond just sitting around in a mall; but just think: Any diamond can truly be a one-of-a-kind diamond in its own right, when given to a one-of-a-kind-person. Although a reputable jeweler will certainly be able to assist you in finding the diamond; it‘s up to you to find the person. Now that’s what you can call rare!

Spring is in the air, and along with the impending warmer weather season, comes thoughts of flowers, love and feelings of sentimentality. For those who may be in the market for a type of engagement ring that has the ability to easily stir up a lively conversation; or a diamond that readily brings Cupid to mind; a Hearts and Arrows diamond may just be the thing to suit your fancy. (Yes, there really is such a thing. ) A Hearts and Arrows diamond is a brilliant round shaped diamond that, when looked at from the top, reflects the likeness of arrows. When turned over, and viewed from a totally different angle, the display has a distinct similarity to the appearance of hearts.

The history of the Hearts and Arrows diamonds cut is quite interesting. Originally discovered in Japan during the 1980’s; and warmly accepted in the United States during the 1990’s, it is so named due to the unusual pattern it displays when placed under a special diamond viewer.

This particular cut, known for its precise symmetry, takes more than double the amount of time to cut and polish, as it would take to produce a similar sized regular round brilliant diamond cut, so expect the price to be at least comparatively higher.

Only a small percentage of diamonds produced today can be termed as authentic Hearts and Arrows. While checking the background and authenticity of any diamond is always a wise thing to do, this important step becomes particularly important when selecting any specialty diamond pieces. This means that any purchaser would need to take the necessary steps to ensure that any diamond labeled as such, has the characteristics of a true Hearts and Arrows diamond, because after all, a true love deserves to be recognized with a true diamond.

Happy Spring from Danforth Diamonds, who believe in helping you find the perfect diamond.

Of course, you could say, “Here, take this!“ while unceremoniously shoving a ring sized box at a confused recipient. Any words spoken will depend on the relationship between the giver and the recipient. If the recipient happens to be your mother or sister, this will be an easy one. They already know you, and will be just merely amused at your overall crassness, as well as, lack of finesse. However, if the recipient happens to be a significant other, and the ring is of a questionable size (teetering somewhere between a friendship or an engagement ring) it comes with an even more questionable meaning. Perhaps, you gave into the pressure of Valentine’s day, but in any case, you know you have to say something …especially when you’re staring straight at someone who is tilting her head to the side, while having “What the…?” written all over her face.

“I *heart* you” to the rescue! While this new and wickedly convenient, phrase has surfaced only in recent times, there also has been a bit of confusion as to the phrase’s proper use and/or context. From our understanding, the delightfully ambiguous saying falls suspiciously between the sentiments of “I like you” and “I love you.” In other words: An extreme case of affection…with half the calories. The confusion alone, can quite possibly buy you at least a few days of time….time to boldly solidify your promise of affection, or time to take that Michael Jackson “moonwalk” out of any perceived commitment misunderstanding.

While Valentine’s day brings its own unique pressures, it is always a wise move to use any declarations of affection with extreme caution, especially when a relationship is at the unsure “I *heart* you” stage. This one can be tricky. And so, with this, we admonish you to use “I like you” , “I love you” or “I *heart* you” with care. Because, after all, there is life after Valentine’s day. Consider yourself warned. After this, you’re on your own.
