Some men certainly know how to say, “I do” with panache and style! Prince Albert of Monaco is recently engaged to the lovely Charlene Wittstock. Miss. Wittstock is wearing a contemporary diamond engagement ring estimated in value at $100K. This lovely sparkly diamond ring has a center stone of an eye-popping 3 carats, and lots of glittering sparkly stones all around the rest of the ring.

This unique and artistic engagement ring was designed by Maison Repossi in Paris, France. Prince Albert and Charlene Wittstock officially announced their engagement this past week, appearing in People.com on June 24th. The couple lean towards each other and hold hands, with the glittering diamond engagement ring centering in the photograph. For those of us who love diamonds…we would say that it came close to stealing the show! But for those of us who love romance, we know nothing could compete with a couple in love.

The design is called “Tethys” and it features a pear-shaped diamond in gray gold. This large pear-shaped diamond has smaller diamonds surrounding it. It is a lovely ring, ideal for a lovely woman.

The couple plan to marry in the summer of 2011 but a date has not been announced. Royal watchers will certainly be excited to be waiting for a royal wedding for the Prince Albert and his lovely bride. With a beautiful ring as the “Tethys” one can only imagine just how amazing the royal wedding for this couple could be!

The happy couple smiled for their official engagement photo released internationally. Wittstock, graceful and elegant is a former champion swimmer. The official engagement photo features Wittstock in a stunning sea foam halter dress that is very feminine and her charming Prince is wearing a sophisticated formal suit and tie.

This is a diamond style we have not seen before, and are curious to see if it will start a trend. Just as many followed in Lady Di’s footsteps to emulate her haircut and wedding dress, it is easy to imagine many longing for the same engagement ring as the lovely Wittstock has received. Stonehouse couple Ron and Sheila Page celebrated their diamond-wedding anniversary on Thursday, February 25^th 2010. Even years filled with challenge couldn’t keep this happy couple apart. A diamond-wedding anniversary! What could be more wonderful than to celebrate a life event with diamonds?

The Page couple met in July 1949 at the old Blue Ballroom on Eastbourne Pier. Ron went over to Sheila and asked her for a dance. Nearly six months later they married at St.Michael and All Angels Church in Eastington on February 15, 1950.

Just three weeks later, Ron had to leave for the Far East due to his serving in the RAF. He left Sheila and their first-born son Clive at home until they could be with him in Hong Kong during his final deployment year.

After returning home to Kent, Sheila gave birth to their second child, a daughter Angela. The family then relocated to Germany for two and a half years and then to Yorkshore for awhile until Ron went by himself to the RAF Gan office located in the Indian Ocean for a final service year.

The couple is now retired and they now have four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. They live in Stonehouse and have many fun hobbies. Shelia enjoys painting and volunteer work. Ron likes to do photography and swims at a local pool.

Ron and Shelia credit their relationship staying together in part to sending each other love letters. Getting a love letter in the mail was a way to know the other was thinking of them, even while far away. We can imagine the two must be very good at writing love letters and keeping the lines of communication open – to reach their wonderful diamond anniversary!

The “Diamond Dip” is an annual part of the South Carolina Oconee Medical Center fundraiser. This year however, they have a bit of a mystery on their hands. The winner of a 3K diamond has not come forward for their lovely prize!

This is a real diamond

Turner’s Jewelry in Seneca, South Carolina gave the beautiful diamond for the South Carolina Oconee Medical Center Fundraiser. The glittery fundraiser attracted hundreds who were thrilled to dig through a bowl of “gems” and select one – with the hope of finding a genuine 3K diamond hidden somewhere in the bowl. The bowl was filled with hundreds of cubic zirconium “gems” – as we diamond lovers know these can look lovely and sparkly – but just are not the real thing!

To us this sounds like a fun and exciting game. Digging through a bowl of sparkly wonderfulness – there is nothing quite like it. Imagining if you could win a big and beautiful 3K diamond – all while helping a local charity continue their good works in your community. Sounds like a complete win-win situation for everyone concerned!

After guests dug through the bowl, Mark Turner and his staff from Turner’s Jewelers would use an electronic tester to confirm each “gem.” But at night’s end there was no winner – and in going through the contents of the bowl they also discovered that the diamond was missing! This means that some lucky winner may have the diamond – and simply doesn’t know it.

We hope all of those guests from the South Carolina Oceanee Medical Center event check their purses, pockets and other locations for those “gems.” One of them could be that winner. • Shine a light through the stone. If you can just see a “halo” around the edges, this is probably a diamond.

• Diamonds are strong heat conductors. Breathe on the diamond and see if it “fogs.” You won’t see condensation from the fog on a diamond.

• Remember: A jeweler at times cannot tell the difference between a genuine diamond and a “cultured” diamond. Careful examination and new tests done by jewelers can help prove it is genuine.

Micro-set diamonds can, at times give the illusion that the diamond it surrounds is much larger. Micro-set diamonds are very tiny diamonds that are individually set. These diamonds are so small, in fact, that using a microscope is required to precisely place them within each small prong. The process involved in creating a micro-setting has been said to be a bit more intense than that of creating a pavé diamond setting.

When combined with larger gems, the result is oftentimes a creation that is absolutely stunning! Aside from giving the appearance of a larger carat size; micro-set diamonds can often provide a perfect “frame” for showcasing a gem of high quality

Depending on the quality of the diamonds and/or skill of the jeweler; jewelry that employs the use of a micro-set could, quite possibly be held under closer scrutiny. A poorly constructed micro-set diamond jewelry piece could prove to be somewhat difficult to repair; and in the long run…especially costly. That being the case, some purchasers have insisted that prior to buying jewelry with this kind of setting, it first be placed in an ultrasonic machine. The reason? To see if it can withstand the vibrational waves used for intense cleaning. Ultrasonic machines use either a mild cleaning solution or warm water ONLY, and so the vibrational energy used by the machine should NOT be able to easily dislodge any well constructed jewelry piece. It is at this point where many decide whether or not to proceed with the sale.

Although diamond rings are the usual way that micro-setting is employed; pendants, bracelets and brooches can also be created this way, oftentimes with absolutely spectacular results! Wow!

Once upon a time, in the faraway land of the U.K. there once lived a dashing gentleman by the name of Robert Charlton. Mr. Charlton was very fortunate in business, as well as a collector of all things fine and beautiful; women being among them. Unfortunately, Mr. Charlton was a married man.

Fortunately, however, for his wife, Elizabeth (dear woman) he was also a man of conscience; conscience to him translating into jewelry…fine jewelry…diamond jewelry. As Mr. Charlton happily philandered his life away, and indulged in as many dalliances as his generous heart desired; the courageous and long-suffering Mrs. Charlton turned a blind eye and sought comfort in rolling around in the countless pieces of jewelry… rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces galore, he gave to her as peace offerings.

Mr. Charlton eventually passed away in 1979, at the ripe old age of 63, leaving Mrs. Charlton to grieve in her sea of carats. As each of us know, most fairy tales do not last forever. She eventually died at age 90, leaving the cache of jewelry marking her husband’s infidelity to her beloved daughter Marie. Marie, in turn, ended up selling over 40 pieces of the sentimental jewelry for £286,000.

Among the pieces were: A 32 carat diamond necklace, a large solitaire diamond pendant and a huge diamond solitaire ring. It also seems that Marie inherited her mother‘s same ‘blind eye’ as she too appeared to be aware of her father’s affairs. What a shocking and tragic trail he left in his wake; eventually leaving both his wife and his daughter to cry “all the way to the bank” (or to the appraiser). Take note girls and see what real trouble looked like just a few short decades ago: A real Mr. Irresistible! The End.

Diamond jewelry worn everyday; wedding ring sets and engagement rings in particular- are especially prone to appearing dull and lackluster. Constant wearing and unavoidable day-to-day activities exposes them to chemicals and other products designed for various uses.

If ever you find that your diamond jewelry has lost any of its sparkle, it should not be too difficult for you to trace back to find the culprits. A word to the wise: Chlorine bleach is not a diamond’s best friend! Avoid wearing your fine jewelry when using it. Hairsprays, dishwashing detergents, lotions, food and other “stuff” can quickly make even the most brilliant diamond appear to be a lifeless piece of costume jewelry. The solution?

Easy.

First of all, please keep in mind that diamonds are not indestructible and should be handled with care. The easiest (and least expensive) way to clean a diamond, is to swish it around in a bath of warm, soapy detergent. It is suggested that this not be done over a bathroom or kitchen sink, but in a separate container, to lessen the odds of your precious jewelry literally going down the drain. Make sure that the detergent is a mild one. A soft bristled brush can be used to gently remove any stubborn dirt or grime. After rinsing in warm water, a soft lint-free cloth can be used for drying. If you prefer a more professional home cleaning solution, it is good to know that there are excellent cleaning products available that are especially designed for the cleaning of fine jewelry.

As a caution: Be especially mindful if other gemstones are set next to your diamond(s); as they may not be able to withstand the same cleaning method as do diamonds. With proper care, your diamond jewelry should bring enjoyment for years!

Apparently, this is what works for Tori Spelling and her husband Dean McDermott. McDermott reset the anniversary gift bar, by deciding to start a tradition of his very own… presenting his wife with a new diamond anniversary ring each year. This year, she was double-diamonded, with a ring duet, composed of one brilliant yellow diamond set alongside a dazzling white diamond. The couple has decided that each year’s ring become part of an heirloom collection to be eventually passed on their children.

One would think that with this year’s selection , she would be set … (at least until Christmas!) But no way! Tori continued to tap into this newfound jewelry bonanza; as Mother’s Day arrived a mere three days afterwards, and she was given a gold necklace and pendant. The pendant, engraved with the letters “L” and “S”, which represented the initials of their two small children, will no doubt eventually become part of the overall collection in the years to come.

Those who are inspired by this, should take note: While this high dosage of diamonds may be a difficult pill to swallow for the average person; the sentiment is one that, on a smaller scale, can be easily be kept. The summer season is almost upon us, and so we believe that it is time for another reminder:

Many of us do not know where to begin when looking to buy diamond jewelry. When examining a pretty “diamond” ring, one can easily see how beautifully it sparkles. See how brightly it shines! But…is it a diamond, or is it “something else“? Is it Moissanite or Cubic Zirconia? Before getting caught up in the excitement of the moment, sometimes the best first thing to do is to simply: ask. Any jeweler worth his or her reputation should be able to tell you. “Don’t ask, don’t tell” is not the policy that one would want to fall victim to. This specific caution is issued due to the fact that many synthetic stones of today, have the initial “look and feel” of genuine diamonds and many are being sold as such. Buying an engagement or wedding ring is a serious undertaking. Aside from its being a matter of the heart; it is also a matter of the wallet! However, sad to say, long after the purchase has been made, and upon closer inspection; many of these “gems” have been uncovered as being fakes.

Another wise thing to do, would be to take a look at the setting. Is it of a fine quality befitting a genuine stone? Next, take a look at the actual stone itself with the naked eye. Is it cloudy? Does it have any obvious inclusions or scratches. Are chips or nicks easily apparent?

These steps are only just for starters. For true peace of mind, one may want to have the selected jewelry independently appraised, and/or be provided with a certificate of authenticity. Got to be real!

It appears that the bar is continually being raised when it comes to finding rare diamonds…especially colored diamonds. In this particular case, the diamond we speak of is a gorgeous 7.03 carat, practically perfect blue diamond. To attain this almost absolute perfection, it was cut from an original 27 carat stone. Blue diamonds (second in scarcity only to red diamonds) are some of the rarest precious stones that can be found. What makes this particular diamond especially awesome, is that it is said to be internally ‘flawless’; an uncommon quality when it comes to diamonds…period.

The blue diamond (currently in a ring setting, and as of yet unnamed), will be the main attraction at an upcoming fine jewelry auction, and is scheduled to be auctioned off in Geneva, Switzerland by Sotheby’s sometime in May. It is estimated that it will command a price somewhere within the 5 to 8 million dollar (US) range.

The diamond, hailing from South Africa, and found in the Cullinan mine; was extracted by Petra Diamonds. This particular mine has had the reputation of regularly yielding high quality diamonds for quite some time now.

During these uncertain financial times, the price of diamonds of the highest quality remain somewhat steady; as they are timeless and remain mostly unaffected. Although fairly rare, diamond jewelry of color can be found at reputable jewelers located in less than exotic places. Of course, one would not expect to find a world class, museum quality, diamond just sitting around in a mall; but just think: Any diamond can truly be a one-of-a-kind diamond in its own right, when given to a one-of-a-kind-person. Although a reputable jeweler will certainly be able to assist you in finding the diamond; it‘s up to you to find the person. Now that’s what you can call rare!
